Background: Jude Kastens is a Senior Research Assistant working on a Ph.D. in mathematics. He received an M.A. in mathematics in 1999, focusing on numerical analysis and signal processing, and has been employed at KARS since then. He received a B.A. in mathematics and a B.S.E. in secondary education from the University of Kansas in 1996. He currently works for the KARS program as a numerical analyst and all-purpose data modeler (small sample statistical modeling is the focus of his Ph.D. research), and he has much experience working with MATLAB, ESRI ArcMap, and ERDAS Imagine software.
Current research interests: The focus of Jude's work at KARS involves using remote sensing data for agricultural applications, but his commitments extend to database management, hydrologic modeling, and land cover change detection. While finishing his undergraduate degrees, Jude acquired 18 months of experience working on geographic information systems, with responsibilities ranging from digitizing to project coordination. He also has over 12 years of experience working on the Kastens family farm in Rawlins County in northwest Kansas.
