Background: Dr. Thorp earned his Ph.D. in Zoology/Ecology from North Carolina State University in 1975.
Current research interests: Ecosystem and community ecology of aquatic ecosystems, especially large rivers; carbon cycling in aquatic food webs; regulation of benthic and planktonic food webs; rehabilitation and management of rivers; experimental effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on community structure; ecology of freshwater invertebrates.
