Graduate Student Opportunities
Students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in terrestrial ecosystem ecology have many opportunities at the University of Kansas. Students in the Billings lab can work in numerous ecosystems, with accomplished scientists in the Kansas Biological Survey (KBS) and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB). If you are admitted to the graduate school for study in EEB, the department guarantees full support for full-time graduate students for five years. Research assistantships are provided on a competitive basis from grants awarded to Dr. Billings. I actively encourage admitted students to design their own research projects after "learning the ropes" in the field and the lab. Interested students should write to Dr. Billings. Be sure to include your reasons for attending graduate school, your c.v., and a list of relevant courses you have taken, such as biology, chemistry, basic ecology, soil science, plant ecology, and biogeochemistry. Explore the KU Graduate School webpage for more information.
